Abstract

The experience of direct observation of Literature and Culture Didactics courses for prospective teachers of English in Italian secondary schools is the starting point for a reflection on the necessity to raise awareness on foreign languages teachers' role as cultural mediators during their training. By analysing the work done in the classroom and the apprentices' responses to it, this paper will also take into consideration how Cultural Studies can become an integral part of teaching pragmatics in didactics courses as well as in foreing language courses. It will discuss the role of group work, teachers-learners interaction, and exams in order to assess how Cultural Studies may help to enhance the intercultural, interdisciplinary nature of learning processes.
