Abstract

During the XX century, the American school's impulse towards the democracy was actualized also through the innovative experiences in educative scope that met the ʹNew schoolʹ international movement. This essay's aim is to show the circumstances which in Italy allowed the introduction of the New school's pedagogical and educative principles from Dewey in primary school's national programs of 1945, thanks to C.W. Washburne, who, from 1943 to 1948, was allied military government's school counsellor.
