Abstract

The essay shows the evolution of the services for children in Italy from the 70s to today, putting it in relation to the development of a new parental identity. By highliting three fundamental moments of development of the kindergarten, the contribution describes the change in the idea of childhood in the contemporary imagery by critically examining the new institutional approach proposed by the ECEC within European and international policies.
