Abstract

One of the most active communities of Mussolini’s opponents was born around the Geneva lake and grew to count thousands of militants. Through a patient and methodical educational action, this anti-fascist community kept alive the idea that another Italy was possible and that it could be built through a patient and methodical action inside associations and institutions which turned into effective bulwarks against the regime. A particularly important episode is the one of Saint-Cergue, where many Jewish children, running away from the Nazi persecution during the war, were saved in the Swiss village.
