Abstract

Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi is considered one of the big instigator of European pedagogy between eighteenth and nineteenth century, and a master of popular education. His many pages, written with obsessive dedication, let us perceive the sorrow felt by the pedagogue from Zurich for his own failures came in succession on the practical level. Through some solicitation taken from Pestalozzi's works (in particular from Il canto del cigno, considered his spiritual testament, the article proposes a reading starting from this contradiction, with the conviction that it contains an important provocation for all educators.
